Good Advice From Cool Dads

Our Dads…we know we can count on them for home improvement tips, grilling pointers, and questionable jokes. But, you can’t overlook what an amazing source they are for life advice. So, as we’re coming up on Father’s Day we wanted to shout out some amazing Dads (including our very own Squatch Dads!) and share some of their best wisdom about life, work, family and beyond.

“A few tips for my 2 year old son (and everyone else) as he grows up – 1) Travel, there are so many amazing things to see in the world. 2) Things are rarely as bad or as good as they seem. 3) Once you pick a sports team, you’re not allowed to change. 4) Wear sunscreen. 5) Don’t be afraid to try new foods. 6) Follow the golden rule. 7) Call your dad. – Ben, Director of Product and Consumer Insights at Dr. Squatch

From the simple and practical to the meaningful, Ben’s got it all covered. Also, sorry beleaguered sports fans, but he’s right.

“Three things: family is extremely important, roll up your sleeves, and always order your salad “chopped and tossed” at a restaurant because why the hell would you pay to do that yourself?” – Jim

Family, hard work and salads. Well played Jim, well played, we raise this whiskey to you.

“This is something my Dad taught me and I tell it to my son too, ‘Hope for the best but prepare for the worst because HOPE is not a strategy!’” – Mark

You can’t underestimate the importance of preparation. Finding a balance between being positive and being prepared to deal with a negative situation is incredibly solid advice, no matter what area of life we’re talking about.

“No matter what type of situation you find yourself in, always find a way to relate to people.” – Ray

This is my favorite piece of advice from my own Father and I think about it all the time. Whether it’s work or life, the simplicity and importance of this advice can’t be understated.

“Take the time to figure out who you are and what you believe in. Live that every day.” – Chris

It may take some time and thought, and it looks different for everyone, but sticking to this is absolutely essential to finding a life that you’re happy and fulfilled with.

“There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.” – Coach Bobby Finstock from Teen Wolf

If you’re not familiar, Coach Finstock is the absolute legend of a basketball coach from the classic 80’s movie Teen Wolf with Michael J. Fox. He lays this crucial advice on Fox’s character Scott at a tough moment, and dammit if it isn’t incredible life advice.

With that we’d like to take a moment to thank all of our Dads for the incredible impact they’ve had on our lives. Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers, grandfathers, soon-to-be fathers, and beyond in Squatch Nation, here’s a toast to you!
